Spring is here

Spring is here and this season brings new hopes, new opportunities and hopefully brighter results. I am keeping myself busy with projects. Keep those ideas pouring in and hopefully we can collaborate and build something exciting.

Many requests for blog sites and shopping carts have come to me and as always I’m happy to be of service. For those who do not know yet, I am also providing strategic couching in areas of social media marketing, online business strategy, career planning, kick-ass study plans for college and high school kids and help for folks to get out of the analysis paralysis and into putting passion into action.

Just recently I had a client hand me a $100 cheque for my advice which hardly took 20 minutes.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If there is a solution out there then I can do it, if there is no solution out there yet, let’s go get down to it and make one. I don’t believe any business that I do can be done alone. Like I said in my previous articles customers are collaborates of success, so every success solution comes with your efforts and mine.

So why pay me to do anything? Well, when everyone does, I watch, and when everyone stops I do! I love uncommon sense and I love the challenge! 🙂

So contact me and lets get down to business!

OH CANADA!

The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games had “OH CANADA” written all over it. The color of the olympic flag might be white with different coloured rings on them, but the true colours of these olympics were red, white and a red maple leaf!

We as Canadian set out to own the podium by trying to win the highest total number of medals in these games. That did not happen, however we did win the most number of Gold medals, not only in these games, but in any winter olympic games in history. Canada was all red, white and gold.

I was not born here in Canada; I was nationalized. I got my Canadian citizenship few years ago, but 2010 is the year I truly became Canadian. I always felt a bit of lack, and somewhat at unease knowing that us Canadians although were proud to be Canadians, had a silent pride and were not as outwardly as we truly should be. But from the moment the torch relay across the country began, I started seeing a different part of Canada, a part that I had not seen in close to a decade that I have been here. The momentum grew as the torch went from east to west, from south to north. I went to see the torch arrive in Toronto. It was a proud moment for me. Suddenly people were not just from different backgrounds, they were all Torontonians; they were all Canadians.

But just before the games began, 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili died after losing control of his sled on the final turn at Whistler mountain in his qualifying run. Could that tragedy have been avoided? Maybe. It is sad and nothing really can replace that. But over the course of the 2010 olympics, the games itself did turn out to be a celebration.

So what were my most memorable moments of the Vancouver 2010 winter olympic games?

  • From the opening ceremony, the whales.
  • From the opening ceremony, Shane Koyczan’s poem, “We Are More”
  • The first medal for Canada was not a gold but a silver by Jenn Heil and in her words “Of course, I wanted gold but I won silver”. Yes she didn’t loose the gold, but she wont the silver.”
  • First Gold medal ever for Canada on home soil – This was the true defining moment and this was what being Canadian is all about. When the last competitor finished his run, and points were award, Alexandre Bilodeau knew he had won Gold, and he started celebrating, but then in an instant paused, to congratulate the last competitor to ski down the slopes for his run, by patting him on the shoulder and then went out to celebrate his victory. And little did he know that he had just predicted the outcome of these Games by saying, “”It’s just the beginning, I think”.
  • Joannie Rochette’s courageous first figure skate after her mother passed aware during the Olympic games.
  • Canada’s dominance over Russia in quarter finals of men’s ice hockey with a 7-3 victory.
  • Women’s curling final between Canada and Sweden. Canada deserved to win, leading by 2 points in the later half of the game. Sweden drew in the last round, and then won over Canada in sudden death. But whatever the result, these Canadian women are champions.
  • The equalizer by team USA in men’s hockey final between Canada and USA with only 24 seconds remaining.
  • And finally the golden goal by Sidney Crosby in over time taking the men’s hockey team to victory. This one golden goal had 3 golden moments in it. First is the gold medal in men’s hockey declaring to the world that Hockey truly is Canada’s game. Second, making that one goal resulting in the breaking of the record for the most gold medals won by any country at any single winter olympic games. And third, is the coast to coast celebration in that one moment where people just stood up, jumped around, screamed with joy and more, and as it is said, the rest is history.

Happy Brithday Dad

This is a special message for my dad!

Dad, you know how hard it is to talk about my feelings and express myself in the way I am about to. Dad, you are really a very special person. I may have never said it before, but I really appreciate everything that you have done for me and actually the whole family. Even your presence makes a huge difference.

I know we have our arguments and disagreements, but every time we have our little debate I learn something new that no book, no movie, no audio tape can ever teach. I really respect you for who you are – an honest, hard working, gentle, kind and confident in your principles and disciplined in your actions. You might find it hard to believe but after taking on reading about life and self help books and with every new book I am realizing you actually live the life that many books only talk about.

You are a true example of following your principles, a true example of honesty and simplicity and humbleness. I know I argue with you about some of your principles that I might not agree with, but there’s one thing that I can only hope to live up to and that is living your principles on a day to day basis, believing in what you do and doing what you believe to be right.

Oh and your healthy habbits of regulated eating and sleeping etc.. although may be very annoying at times haha I can see how healthy you look and I only wish I could be as disciplined as you!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Public libraries and meeting places

It just seems to me that people have forgotten what a public library is for. Library is a place where people get some quiet time so that they can read peaceful, but there was a time when you could even meditate in a library, and now is a time where even reading has become difficult. Over the course of 4 years I saw the library at my university grow in size, people and in noise. Two years after graduation I am sitting in this public library and it seems to be getting worse. Even the librarians do not seem to care.

I can do my work here with easy – I don’t have any problem. But what bugs me is that there was a time when people were scared to sneeze as that sneeze would echo through the library and now a sneeze probably won’t even be heard. It just seems that people have forgotten what the real purpose of a library was.

My Vision for My Company

Someone asked me what is your vision for yourself or for your company. Surprisingly, I answered the question right away, and when I thought back at what I had said, I realised it was absolutely true. This is the exact thing that drives me day in day out. I just never consciously thought about formulating my vision for what I was doing. But now that I know, it just creates juice in my life. Well, what did I really say? Here it is:

I want to build and work with a company that is the driving force of technology. My vision is not only to deliver the best using current technology but evolve to being the company that is a major player in shaping the way we interact, communicate and do business that enhances not only wealth but also the quality of every aspect of people’s lives.

beat the flu, and now back in bussiness

Hello everyone,

It’s been a long time since I posted something on my blog. I had been out from it all, battling my fall arch nemesis, the flu..haha. It’s been two weeks that the coughing has kept me locked inside the house and away from the phone so I haven’t been even able to talk to anyone, including clients and friends.

But kaps is back in business. Got some exciting projects ahead of me. Updates to Kesario.com have been at a stand still. The future of kesario.com really rests in the coming few weeks.

So what will today’s big quote be? All I have to say is that people who have failed must have given up at some point. So if you have a dream, you better protect it, because those who cannot do something will tell you, you can’t do it (friends and family included).

History has told us that persistence and perseverance has always paid off, so folks, just when you think that everything is going against you, know that the better, brighter future is just around the corner. The night will always be darkest before dawn, but know that dawn is coming! So when you feel you are at your darkest moments, start celebrating and KNOW that dawn is coming!

Nuit Blanche

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Nuit Blanche which means white night in French marks the sunset to sunrise arts festival in Toronto. Just coming from it and I must say it was quite an interesting night. The streets of downtown Toronto were packed with people crawling and they were carrying with them happy faces, which is a very different scene compared to Christmas shopping season or boxing day where the only thing people are carrying are shopping bags and stressed out faces.

Couple of cool things I saw were a gaint balloon bunny floating with strings attached to it, huge 4 letter text suspended in mid air, batman, this guy who was colored in bronze who apparently was a regular, some guys doing dances in th streets, rides, some cool street drummers, and DAVE! and well… few other things as well that I can’t really remember at this moment. Honestly it’s late but I still will wake up for my morning power walk.

I think every night should be a nuit blanche in Toronto! This is probably for the first time I saw people so friendly and in such large crowds who were not even afraid to give a smile if you bumped into them. Or maybe I’m just in a continuous good state that I’m seeing everyone happy lol…Either way this was an interesting night, and I might even participate in the next Nuit Blanche event. I already have a cool idea that I want to display :).

Gandhi Day

Today, the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is celebrated all across India and is also a national holiday there. Gandhi is known as the father of India, who with his non-violence and civil disobedience movement led Indians to an independence from British rule. He has affected millions and still does today with his philosophies and principles around the world.

I studied in a high school named after this man, “Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School” where I learnt few principles that has stuck with my ever since. One of which is “satyameva jayate” (Truth alone triumphs). I just want to thank God, life, fate, or karma, or whatever it is that is guiding and shaping our destinies for bringing about such a man into this world and also for providing me the opportunity to learn about him and instill few of the principles in me that otherwise I would not have known.

#1 Unacceptable blunder of website deployment

The number 1 unacceptable blunder of website deployment is people not turning off the display of errors. I just came across one two minutes ago. People, when you put your website live make sure others dont see any kind of errors that no one but the programmer should be using during development. I’m not talking about I.E. crapping out on the user and I’m not even talking about 404 errors(no to say that is acceptable – I know I’m guilty of this one).

Why is it unacceptable? Number 1 reason is that you will lose credibility of your site. Second is you are exposing what’s under the hood – why this one is bad is a whole other story.

This mostly happens with sites running on php. Make sure “display_errors” is set to “OFF” in the php config file. What is even more surprising to me is that some of the sites that have errors, and I’m not just talking about php sites, are actually well reputed sites! I’m not going to mention any names here, but they are there and if you’ve ever used the Internet, I’m sure you’ve come across a few already.
